Learn the basics of getting around town on the bus.

Using the Trip Planner

1.   Enter where you are & where you're going into the Trip Planner!
2.   If it doesn't understand your inputs you will see "Found multiple results, select." Click this box and you will see a drop down box, select a location from the listed choices.
3.   Once your locations are found, click Search & then click Show Selected Trip Options.
4.   Pick the trip option that best fits your schedule!
5.   Click Return Connection in the top right corner for return trip options.

How to Read a Bus Schedule

1.   Check the bus route number on the bus schedule to make sure you have the right bus!
2.   Major bus stops are listed in the order the bus arrives at them. From the bus stops listed, find the stop closest to you & pick which one you want to ride to.
3.   Find the time you need to arrive at your destination by and determine when you need to catch the bus to get there on time by looking across the chart.

Taking the Bus

1.   When waiting for the bus, flag the bus driver to make sure they know you want their bus and not a different one.
2.   Insert your money into the box at the front of the bus to get your fare ticket. If you need to transfer to another bus in the same bus system (ex. Triangle Transit to Triangle Transit) ask the bus driver for a transfer ticket when you pay your fare.
Remember: The bus driver cannot give you change back so bring exact change!
3.   When you want to get off the bus, pull the cord along the window or press the strip above your head. If you are unsure where your stop is, tell the bus driver where you want to go and they should help.

Discounted Bus Passes

Just take your DukeCard to the Transportation Office to receive discounted bus passes. You can save up to 60% on city and regional bus passes.

Campus Bus: Duke University

Ride FREE on Duke Buses to travel around campus!
Robertson Shuttle Bus
The Robertson Bus is a free shuttle between UNC & Duke campuses. Get on the bus in front of Duke Chapel to ride to the Morehead Planetarium (off Franklin St.) for FREE.
This bus runs every 30 minutes on weekdays, between 7:30am and 7:30pm. From 7:30pm to 11pm, it runs once an hour.

Regional Bus: Triangle Transit

Triangle Transit can take you all the way to Raleigh or Chapel Hill!

Ride to & from RDU Airport

Free Airport Shuttle
Parking and Transportation Services offers a free shuttle to RDU Airport for Fall Break, Thanksgiving and Spring Break! It's a good idea to make your reservation in advance.
$2 Bus Ride to & from RDU
If the free shuttle isn't available when you need to fly, just take the bus for $2! Catch Triangle Transit 403 or 413 on Erwin Rd and take it to the Regional Transit Center. At the Regional Transit Center, transfer to Triangle Transit 747 to ride to RDU Airport Terminal 1 or Terminal 2!

West Campus: From Flowers Dr at the traffic circle, take DATA 6.
East Campus: From the campus side of Buchanan Blvd, take DATA 11.
From Durham Station
Travel almost anywhere in Durham and the Triangle.

Southpoint Mall

West Campus: From the campus side of Erwin Rd take Triangle Transit 413, or follow the above directions to Durham Station and take DATA 7.
East Campus: Follow the above directions to Durham Station and take Triangle Transit 413 or DATA 7.
At Southpoint Mall

UNC

West Campus: From the Chapel take the Robertson Express Bus straight to Morehead Planetarium at UNC, or from opposite campus on Erwin Rd, take Triangle Transit 402 to Varsity Theater on Franklin St.
East Campus: Take Duke's C-1 (East-West) to the Chapel. From the Chapel take the Robertson Express Bus straight to Morehead Planetarium at UNC.
At UNC & Franklin Street:
Ben & Jerry’s, Carolina Coffee House, Jack Spratt, Qdoba, Starbucks, Top of the Hill, Varsity Theater, and more.

NCSU

West Campus: From the campus side of Erwin Rd take Triangle Transit 403 or 413, or ride to Durham Station and take Triangle Transit 403 or 413. At the Regional Transit Center, change to Triangle Transit 105 and take it to Hillsborough St.
East Campus: Follow the above directions to Durham Station and take Triangle Transit 403 or 413 (stop is on Pettigrew St) to the Regional Transit Center. Then change to Triangle Transit 105 and take it to Hillsborough St.
